Welcome to our website focused on patented chainsaw innovations relating to ‘tool free’ strategies as well as continuous chain control.

We have built and tested several prototypes.  Compared to a base saw in the video clips, chain overrun after throttle release can be controlled to minimize or prevent nasty injuries like the golfer, Greg Norman, recently suffered.

The above saw is our Brake-in-Time innovation with and without a cost effective kickback brake compared to the base saw.  Our modified saw requires less than 10% of the base saw time for the chain to come to rest following throttle release.  This can easily reduce or eliminate injuries.  Our kickback brake has the added safety feature of forcing the throttle back to idle. Note that the clutch cover is removed for clarity. All of our components can readily be placed under a clutch cover so that no cutter bar length is lost.

My engineering career started with a Masters degree from the University of Wisconsin focused on two stroke engine emissions. This lead to a career in the engine industry devoted to making engines friendly to the environment.  After work hours, I still had a desire for research.  So, I combined my avocation with my new vocation as a Pennsylvania tree farmer. Soon, it became clear that a changed saw was needed which resulted in several patents and prototypes. To focus on their development, Tuscarora Designs, Inc. was founded in 1986 by W. C. King, following over 20 years in industry on various projects in the United States as well as in Europe.

When not designing, I am, or would like to be, at our 'other' office on the slopes!
